Abstract
The field of miRNA represents a new dimension to global regulatory networks that is important for cell physiology. miRNAs are small non-coding RNAs predicted to regulate the expression of up to 30% of all protein-coding genes by binding to sites within the 3’ UTR of mRNAs.
The study of miRNA requires special approaches to sensitively and accurately detect such small molecules. Exiqon has developed several technological platforms based on Locked Nucleic Acid (LNA™) to detect miRNAs and uncover their functions.
In this seminar we will present our work in generating a miRNA signature for separating normal colon from colon cancer, the use of Laser Capture Microdissection (LCM) for detection of miRNAs as well how in-situ hybridization can be used to localize miRNAs in tumor sections.
Finally we will present how Exiqons novel miRCURY™ LNA Universal RT microRNA PCR System can be used to profile up to 730 miRNAs in blood serum and plasma from just 40 ng total RNA.
