CRP-Santé is pleased to invite you to the Friday Seminar entitled "On the structure and biosynthesis of therapeutic natural products" by Luke Simmons, Ph.D., Humboldt Research Fellow, Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research, Saarland (HIPS), University of Saarland, Saarbrücken, Germany.
Abstract
Secondary metabolites derived from plants and microorganisms (both terrestrial and marine) remain a critical resource for the global drug discovery pipeline. By combining classical natural products chemistry
with modern biotechnology we can now explore and manipulate the genetics underlying the synthesis of these important molecules. Here I will present my work on the discovery and structure elucidation of
bioactive natural products and the genetic engineering of a biosynthetic gene cluster.
