2011 - 09 - 19 Deep sequencing at the Microarray Center
Since January 2011, the Microarray Center has acquired a high throughput DNA sequencer using the most efficient and state-of-the-art developments based on next generation pyrosequencing. The 454 Junior GS model, marketed by Roche was an investment of 120.000 €.

The Microarray Center is one of the Competences Centers of CRP-Santé providing high value services to public organizations and private partners. The key value resides in the outstanding capabilities of its researchers, engineers and technicians. Deep sequencing allows the analysis of massive DNA sequences in a very short time, at a competitive and reasonable price. This technology has already been detailed within many scientific publications: it generates 70.000 to 100.000 reads with an average length of about 400 pb for a whole capacity of 35 Mb. This equipment implemented at the Microarray Center complements well the SOLiD4 system (Applied Biosystems) available at the Integrated Biobank of Luxembourg (IBBL). While the latter is designed for large scale analysis, the GS Junior is well adapted for targeted sequencing purposes (genotyping, rare variant detection, sequence capture, etc) and for the sequencing of small genomes from bacteria or viruses. It offers straightforward protocols for shotgun and amplicon sequencing of DNA fragment libraries prepared according to various strategies (paired-end, multiplexed, etc).
The 454 Junior GS model and deep sequencing realized at the Microarray Center is clear opportunity to realize next generation sequencing within oncology, virology, bacteriology, etc.
Team members of the Microarray Center have been specifically trained at Roche, Penzberg, Germany in order to prepare sample analyses and data analyses. The Microarray Center can propose you a direct access to this technology and proposes its services to all users who would like to benefit from the knowledge of the Microarray Center’s team.
