2011 - 09 - 07 Dr. Karthik Arumugam : expert in bioinformatics, providing high value services which are unique in Luxembourg
Since 2010, Dr. Karthik Arumugam has been working at the Laboratory of Retrovirology-CRP-Santé as an expert in bioinformatics. He has conducted several projects as project investigator at CRP-Santé or in collaboration with different external partners, and has been rewarded several times for outstanding scientific presentations. Dr. Arumugam provides unique, high value bioinformatics services and is open to participate in new research projects in CRP-Santé.
He obtained his PhD in Bioinformatics at the “Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives” (CEA – France) and he has gained outstanding capabilities for several years in the following fields:
1. Development of Algorithms/Software Tools related to Bioinformatics
2. Structure prediction of unknown proteins (Ab initio and Homology Modeling)
3. Quantum Chemistry (parameterization )
4. Modeling, simulation and optimization of the biological complex system.
5. Molecular Modeling & Interaction (Protein, DNA, Ligands , Peptides)
6. Molecular Docking
7. Deriving Structural Motifs for Rational Drug Discovery Research
8. Pharmacophore based drug design
9. De novo drug design
10. Virtual screening
11. Lead Optimization
12. ADME and toxicity prediction
13. Cheminformatics

Awards:
Dr Arumugam will receive“The young scientist travel fellowship award” for the 17th International Biophysics Conference which will be held in Beijing, China, 2011 and in order to introduce his work in front of the Noble Laureates. Dr. Arumugam also received the award for his conference presentation entitled “A molecular modeling approach to the evolutionary dynamics of Enfuvirtide Resistance Associated Mutations”, in collaboration with Dr. Carole Devaux, Dr. Jean Claude Schmit, Dr. Danielle Perez Bercoff, at the International workshop on HIV & Hepatitis Virus Drug resistance and curative strategies, in Los Cabos, Mexico, 2011.
