2010 - 12 - 07 Habilitation à Diriger les Recherches" (HDR) awarded to Clément Thomas

Clément Thomas, Research Scientist at the Plant Molecular Biology Laboratory, was awarded the  "Habilitation à Diriger les Recherches" (HDR) on November 16, 2010 by the University of Strasbourg (France) for his work on the regulation of the actin cytoskeleton and gene expression by LIM proteins.

The HDR, which is the highest academic qualification in France, is a strict requirement for supervising PhD students and applying for a Professor position at a University. The HDR award also represents an important peer-to-peer recognition of the recent work conducted by Clément and his colleagues of the Plant Molecular Biology Laboratory in the actin cytoskeleton field.

The expert evaluation committee was composed of:

-      Prof. Christophe Ampe, VIB, University of Gent, Belgium

-      Prof. Evelyne Friederich, University of Luxembourg, Luxembourg

-      Prof. Barbara Winsor, University of Strasbourg, France

-      Dr. Alexis Gautreau, LEBS, CNRS, Gif-Sur-Yvette, France

-      Dr. Christophe Ritzenthaler, IBMP, CNRS, Strasbourg, France

Part of the future research developed by Clément will be on human cysteine-rich proteins which are the human counterparts of the plant LIM proteins and whose dysfunctions can lead to myopathies (project funded by the FNR CORE Programme 2010).
