About the research unit:
The Laboratory of Immunogenetics and Allergology (LIGA), within the Department of Virology, Allergology, and Immunology, utilizes techniques of applied and basic research with the aims of improving the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of patients with allergic and immune-mediated diseases. Research is performed in close collaboration with the national unit of Immunology and Allergology at the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg, with activities generously supported by the Ministry of Research and Higher Education and the Fonds National de la Recherche (FNR).
Basic research within LIGA focuses on several areas, including:
• Characterization of major animal allergen families
• Analysis of the cellular immune response
• Analysis of the interactions between the nervous and immune systems
• Study of the functional cellular modification in TAP deficiency
Research for improving patient diagnosis and care includes:
• Development of assays to detect sensitization to food and respiratory allergens
• Development of assays to detect and trace allergens and proteins of animal origin
• Transfer of molecular biology techniques to the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg.
