2011 - 05 - 08 Nancy Gerloff defended her PhD thesis at the Universität des Saarlandes, in Homburg, Germany

Department of Immunology (LNSI) . Nancy Gerloff recently defended her Ph.D. thesis (magna cum laude) at the Universität des Saarlandes  in Homburg/Saar, Germany. The title of her PhD thesis is « Molecular characterization of influenza A viruses - epidemiology and genetics ».

Nancy Gerloff has written or co-authored 5 publications, three of which in Emerging Infectious Diseases, published by CDC, Atlanta, USA. She has given numerous oral presentations, both as department seminars and at national and international meetings. During her PhD Nancy Gerloff has learned a broad range of techniques in virology and molecular biology as well as soft skills that are important for preparing for her future scientific career. Ms Gerloff taught and supervised a number of collaborating scientists from the New Independent States (former Soviet Republics) and from West-Africa in molecular biology, both in our Institute and during a workshop for medical students in Lagos, Nigeria. The English speaking environment of the Institute of Immunology has prepared her for her new position as a post-doctoral scientist at the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, USA.
