2010 - 10 - 19 Prospective cohort study looking at determinant risk factors of running-related injuries in long-distance runners
Joakim Genin, PhD researcher at the Sports Medicine Research Laboratory is currently launching a prospective cohort study looking at determinant risk factors of running-related injuries in long-distance runners. This is a 6-month training follow-up leading up to the ING Europe (semi ) Marathon of Luxembourg 2011.
Over the last 40 years running as a health-promoting activity has grown in popularity, significantly improving the quality of life among runners. Unfortunately, running-related injuries are on the increase as well, and a team of researchers at CRP-Santé has taken it upon themselves to conduct a study on the injury incidence and associated risk factors among runners training for the Luxembourg ING Europe Marathon 2011 Event, that is the marathon, the semi-marathon or the team-run!
This study consists of a 6-month follow-up of your daily training, leading up to the 2011 ING-Europe Marathon of Luxembourg.
It aims at runners of any fitness level, whether you are a novice or an experienced runner. For the beginners, this is a unique opportunity to start your training in a well structured fashion.
The outcome of this study will help the understanding of the factors involved in running-related injuries and the prevention strategies to avoid them. In the long run, our results will help the end-user, which is you, to enhance training safety and enjoy injury-free running.
Joakim Genin, project leader of this study did his training as a physical therapist and recently graduated in his PhD in movement science at the Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium in September 2009. He joined the CRP-Santé in Octobre 2009.
He will be pleased to answer to your questions about this study. Contact : joakim.genin@crp-sante.lu
