2012 - 01 - 10 Stop Sports injuries

The Luxembourg Olympic Medical Centre which is composed by Centre de l'Appareil Locomoteur de Médecine du Sport et de Prévention (CALMS) from the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL) as well as the Sports Medicine Research Laboratory (LRMS) of CRP-Santé is among the first European Centers to be involved in the Stop Sports Injuries campaign conducted by the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. The centre is co-directed by Prof Dr. Romain Seil who is also part of the Sports Medicine Research Laboratory (LRMS) of CRP-Santé, and is indeed supporting this active campaign which aims to focus on the importance of sports safety-specifically relating to overuse and trauma injuries.

The development of the STOP (Sports Trauma and Overuse Prevention) Sports Injuries campaign was initiated in early 2007. Members of the Society's Board of Directors, including STOP Sports Injuries co-campaign chair and renowned orthopaedic surgeon, James R. Andrews, MD, decided that overuse injuries in young athletes WERE becoming a critical issue for its members to address. The initiative not only raises awareness and provides education on injury reduction, but also highlights how playing safe and smart can enhance and extend a child's athletic career, improve teamwork, reduce obesity rates and create a lifelong love of exercise and healthy activity. In addition, a Council of Champions has been established that includes business, sports and medical leaders to bring this message to and actively engage youth sports parents, coaches, athletes and healthcare providers.
