2011 - 10 - 06 Tipps.lu: newly created by the Sports Medicine Research Laboratory

The positive impact of exercise and sports on the physical and mental health is vast and well-accepted. Nevertheless, exercise holds a certain risk of sports injury, whatever the level of practice. The Sports Medicine Research Laboratory investigates this problematic with the aim of identifying risk factors and defining pertinent prevention strategies.

In the framework of our research projects, and with the support of our partners, we have developed an original software to monitor training load and sports injuries: the TIPPS. It is an electronic sports agenda accessible via the internet which can be used by high-level athletes as well as beginners. Data related to sports practice and health (pain and injury) can be uploaded into this system on a daily basis.

The TIPPS automatically generates statistics on sports practice, graphically illustrates training loads, identifies periods of injuries and analyses the injury characteristics. It tags athletes with an increased injury risk based on objective indicators. When used by a school, sports club or federation, the registered information will permit an efficient follow-up of the individual athletes by trainers and medical staff to optimize training load and allow for safe sports practice.
