A knee study starting April, 21th 2011 by the Sports Medicine Research Laboratory
The Sports Medicine Research Laboratory of the Public research Centre for Health and the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL) are conducting a research study on anterior cruciate ligament ruptures as of the 28st of April.
Haven’t heard of a ligament rupture before? It is an injury not only affecting high performance athletes, but it can also occur during daily activities in both the young and old.
For this project to take place, the Sports Medicine Research Laboratory is looking for participants willing to take part in a study a study on knee laxity (displacement of the tibia with respect to the femur).
Why should I participate in this study ?
Knee laxity tests are widely used to diagnose and evaluate ligament tears or ruptures, but are difficult to interpret due to lack of data on the general population. We are therefore very interested in gathering this information within the general population, specifically on people without any previous injuries to the knee. This will allow us to establish a reference which can then be used to correctly interpret patients’ results.
Who can participate in this study ?
Participation couldn’t be simpler, and if you have never suffered from a knee injury and are 18 or over, we would be interested in inviting you into the lab for a test!
What does the study consist of?
Participation in this study consists of 2 visits of maximum one hour each and will entail:
- Filling out general information questionnaires
- Two knee laxity tests, each repeated up to 3 times (10 minutes for each test)
In return, you will receive a full explanation of your personal results and a feedback report comparing your knee status to that of the rest of the study population in the project.
