The main objective of the National Focal Point is to collect, to produce, to analyze and to provide valid, reliable and comparable data on drugs and drug addiction in Luxembourg. This includes surveillance and research activities.
ACTIVITIES
At European level:
The National Focal Point (NFP) provides the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) with reliable and comparable data on the drugs phenomenon in Luxembourg.
The following core issues are part of the NFPs contributions to the annual work programme of the EMCDDA:
- Prevalence and patterns of use among the general population
- Problem drug use
- Treatment demand
- Drug-related deaths and mortality among drug users
- Drug-related infectious diseases
- Crime, markets and supply data
- Public expenditures dedicated to the fight against drugs
- Action on new drugs and emerging trends
At national level:
The priorities of the NFP are the collection and the compilation of any relevant information on drugs and drug addiction. Over the past ten years, the Focal Point has consolidated national and international cooperation networks and allows promoting, initiating and performing research in the field of illicit drug use and its consequences. Surveillance activities rely on a national network and database called RELIS (“Réseau Luxembourgeois d’Information sur les Stupéfiants” – “Luxembourgish Information Network on Drugs”).
