CRP-Santé’s technology transfer mission is to facilitate the commercialisation of research results and to be a catalyst in the growth of the life sciences activities of our institution and in Luxembourg.
ACTIVITIES
The process to reach the aims of CRP-Santé’s technology transfer office can be divided in three steps:
(1) Pro-active protection and tracing of inventions with commercial potentia
Open communication lines and frequent exchange of information with our scientists is part of our daily business. Early awareness of novel inventions is crucial to reach the most effective protection and CRP-Santé makes significant efforts to pro-actively identify and protect inventions generated by its researchers. By discussing early on publications, conference presentations, poster sessions and student thesis defences, the most optimal form of protection of ideas and inventions is sought by means of an in depth patentability check and a preliminary market analysis.
(2) Securing the necessary property rights
CRP-Santé follows a dynamic filing, maintenance and prosecution policy related to patents. Patent applications are revisited regularly to evaluate their value in relation with proof-of-concept, prior art, freedom-to-operate and licensing potential.
Other forms of intellectual property protection are sought where it is found more suited.
(3) Marketing the technology through negotiating and executing agreements with companies and the foundation of start-ups.
The core assets for commercialisation are proprietary inventions, know-how, expertise and biological materials.
The majority of the inventions are commercialised via licensing to existing companies. CRP-Santé welcomes partners from all over the world to collaborate . License, research, development and other agreements are negotiated tailor-made . CRP-Santé prefers sustainable relationships and will make all reasonable efforts to establish a smooth transfer of the technology. CRP-Santé expects diligent commercialisation from its partners.
For novel inventions with an exceptionally wide range of potential commercial applications, CRP-Santé favours the foundation of start-ups. In close collaboration with the involved inventors, CRP-SANTÉ designs business concepts around such inventions and platforms.
