Brief Posting Description:
In collaboration with a research team, this bioinformatics programmer position drives quality data production and analysis from state-of-the-art life sciences technologies, including biospecimen tracking system modules, next-generation sequencing, gene expression, SNP genotyping, and copy number variation platforms. The bioinformatics student will work closely with the Investigator and/or bioinformatics mentor on data management and analysis methods, as well as on any novel tools required to undertake the analyses.
Detailed Description:
• Contributes to the design of experiments toward generating high quality data.
• Participates in lab meetings by updating department of progress, results, and future goals/studies.
• Assists in writing proposals.
• Attends seminars and journal clubs.
• Mentors interns and under-graduate students.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Works on managing and analyzing data generated from cutting-edge genomic and proteomic technologies using Perl, Java and/or C/C++
• Special consideration will be given to applicants with prior experience in gene expression or DNA sequence analysis, or high-throughput laboratories.
• Must be comfortable working as part of a fast paced environment.
Job Requirements:
• Master-level degree in Computing, Bioinformatics or related field
• Bioinformatics experience
• Experience in at least 2 of Perl, Java, C/C++
• Unix/ Linux / Mac OS X
• Relational database expertise including SQL and schema design
Desirable:
• Javascript, PHP or R/ S-plus
• >Unit testing using JUnit and Test::Harness
• CVS or SVN version control software
• Strong statistics or mathematics
Job Informations:
The position is available for the PPM project in close collaboration with the groups of Dr A. Paulovich from Fred Hutchinson center, Seattle and Dr C.Selinsky from the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen,Phoenix, Arizona -www.tgen.org)
The position is financed by the FNR of Luxembourg with AFR grants for a public-private partnership and is for a period of 3 years. The candidate will work in USA (mosthly in Phoenix) and will participate in regular exchange with CRP-Santé and Seattle.
